Babies are here!

two babies on top in mesh bag, many more on bottom

Most of the eggs hatched last night. Some had already escaped from the mesh brooding bag into the tank. Many were getting stuck between the structure and the mesh, or in the mesh itself, so I let them all go into the main tank. They will have their yolk sac for a couple of days post-hatch to sustain them. Many are hanging out on top in the main stream of water that returns from the filter. Many more are on the bottom, and appear to be foraging. I placed some very fine mesh across the return grating that goes to the filter system to avoid their getting sucked in. They are all really active now. They seem to have a lot of coloration for fishes that will turn out all silver. As in picture below, scales on zebra fishes start developing near the tail and are complete in the juvenile stage, so it will be interesting to watch them attain their adult coloration.
